Alan Ewert

Alan Ewert, PhD. is a Professor Emeritus and past holder of the Patricia and Joel Meier Endowed Chair in Outdoor Leadership at Indiana University. Prior to this he has served as a faculty member at the Ohio State University, University of Northern British Columbia. In addition, he was the Branch Chief of Outdoor Recreation, Wilderness, and Urban Forestry Research for the USDA Forest Service. He has instructed in a variety of programs including Outward Bound, NOLS, and Wilderness Inquiry and has served as a Survival Instructor for the US Air Force. To date, he has authored or co-authored over eight books including, Behavioral and Group Management in Outdoor Adventure Education, Outdoor Adventure Pursuits: Foundations, Theory, and Research Outdoor Adventure Pursuits: Foundations, Models, and Theories, Outdoor Education: Methods and Strategies, Natural Environments and Human Health. He was also recently listed as a member of the 2022 World’s Top 2% Scientists by Stanford University.
